Kartra vs Kajabi for Course Creators: Which Platform Fits Your Business in 2026?
Kartra suits course creators who want native email marketing, funnels, affiliate management, and video hosting bundled into one platform at a lower monthly cost. Kajabi suits creators who want a purpose-built learning experience — polished course player, communities, coaching products, and podcasts — with less configuration required out of the box. The two platforms diverge sharply on price as your list grows, and the difference in student experience matters if your buyers expect a premium environment.

Pricing at a Glance
Kartra and Kajabi both bundle a lot into their base plans, but the things they bundle are different — and the costs diverge sharply at scale. Here’s what actually matters for a course creator making this decision in 2026.
| Plan | Monthly (billed annually) | Contacts / Students | Key inclusions | Key limits |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Kartra Starter | ~$119/mo | 2,500 contacts | Email, funnels, pages, checkouts, video hosting, 1 custom domain | No affiliate management; limited automations |
| Kartra Growth | ~$229/mo | 12,500 contacts | Affiliate management, helpdesk, webinars, surveys | Kartra branding removed at this tier |
| Kartra Professional | ~$549/mo | 25,000 contacts | All features, white-label option, agency sub-accounts | Still per-contact pricing above 25k |
| Kajabi Basic | ~$149/mo | 10,000 contacts | 3 products, 1 website, community, coaching, email marketing | Transaction fees removed; 3 pipelines cap |
| Kajabi Growth | ~$199/mo | 25,000 contacts | 15 products, affiliate program, 24/7 chat support | No white-label; video bandwidth limits apply |
| Kajabi Pro | ~$399/mo | 100,000 contacts | 100 products, 3 websites, custom code | Transaction fees still 0%; priciest tier |
Hidden cost to watch on Kartra: video hosting counts against a bandwidth cap on lower plans. Heavy video courses may push you to upgrade sooner than the contact count alone would. Hidden cost to watch on Kajabi: the Basic plan caps you at three products. A single course, a coaching offer, and a community fills that cap immediately. Most serious creators end up on Growth.
Both tools pay affiliate commissions in the same general range (recurring percentage of the subscription). We earn a commission on Kartra through our link above. Kajabi has its own affiliate programme but we are not enrolled in it, so there is no financial incentive for us to recommend either one over the other on that basis.
Where They Actually Differ
Course and student experience
Kajabi’s course player is more polished by default — progress tracking, drip content, quizzes, completion certificates, and a native mobile app students can download from the App Store. Kartra has a membership site builder that works, but it was designed around marketing funnels first and learning experiences second. Students using Kartra typically log in through a web browser; the environment feels more like a member portal than a learning management system.
Email marketing and automation
Kartra’s email and automation engine is significantly deeper. Visual sequence builders, behaviour-based tagging, lead scoring, split testing of entire funnels — this is the core of what Kartra was built for. Kajabi’s email tool covers the basics well and its “Pipelines” (visual funnel builder) are competent, but creators who run complex segmentation or long nurture sequences consistently report hitting walls on Kajabi that Kartra handles without workarounds.
Community and coaching
Kajabi has invested heavily in community features: discussion boards, circles, live rooms, and a mobile app that wraps courses and community together. Its coaching product also handles scheduling and session delivery natively. Kartra has no native community module — you would need a separate tool (Circle, Skool, Discord) or accept a basic membership forum. For creators whose business model centres on cohort learning or paid communities, this is a material difference.
Funnels, checkouts, and affiliate management
Kartra’s checkout system is more flexible — order bumps, upsells, payment plans, trial offers, and a full affiliate management dashboard are built in from the Growth plan upward. Kajabi added an affiliate programme, but Kartra’s is more configurable for creators running complex partner programmes or marketplace-style referral structures.
Video hosting
Both platforms host video. Kartra imposes bandwidth limits by plan tier; Kajabi is more permissive on video but has its own soft limits on Pro. Neither is a substitute for a dedicated CDN at large scale, but for most course creators under 10,000 students, both work fine.
Integrations and flexibility
Kartra integrates natively with a solid list of payment processors and has a Zapier connection for everything else. Kajabi similarly connects to Zapier and has a growing direct integration library. Neither is as open as a WordPress-based setup; both require some compromise on bespoke workflows.
Choose Kartra if…
- Your revenue depends on email sequences, launch funnels, or a large affiliate programme — Kartra’s marketing engine is the stronger one.
- You sell a mix of offers (courses, services, info products, consulting) and need flexible checkout flows with order bumps and upsells.
- You want to keep monthly costs lower while your list is small and you are comfortable configuring the membership area yourself.
- You plan to run a marketing agency or manage multiple client accounts — Kartra’s agency sub-accounts cover this; Kajabi does not.
- You already use or plan to use a separate community platform and want the rest of your stack to be one tool.
Choose Kajabi if…
- Your students’ learning experience is the product — Kajabi’s course player, mobile app, and certificates deliver a more polished environment out of the box.
- You sell courses plus a paid community and coaching, and you want all three in one place without stitching tools together.
- You want to add a podcast or newsletter as a product type — Kajabi supports both natively; Kartra does not.
- You have a large contact list and anticipate it growing past 25,000 — Kajabi’s Pro plan handles 100k contacts for less than Kartra’s equivalent tier.
- You prefer less configuration in exchange for a slightly higher monthly cost, and your team is small.
The Verdict
For most course creators running a business primarily through launches, evergreen funnels, and email marketing, Kartra delivers more firepower per dollar. The membership area requires more setup effort than Kajabi, but creators who have built on both platforms typically say the marketing capability of Kartra justifies that trade-off — provided they are willing to spend a few hours configuring it properly.
For creators whose product is the learning environment — cohort courses, membership communities, coaching programmes — Kajabi’s native mobile app, community module, and polished course player are genuinely superior and worth the price premium. At the Growth tier, the monthly cost difference between the two platforms narrows considerably, and Kajabi stops looking expensive when you account for the community and coaching tools you would otherwise pay for separately.
If you are early in your course business and price is the deciding factor, start on Kartra. If your students need a premium, app-first experience and your business model includes community or coaching, Kajabi earns its price. Both platforms serve a version of the same business — they just serve different versions of it.

Owners Are Asking
Can I migrate my Kajabi course to Kartra, or vice versa?
There is no direct one-click migration between the two. Course content (videos, PDFs) can be re-uploaded manually. Student lists export as CSVs and import cleanly. The painful part is rebuilding your pages, funnels, and automations from scratch in the new platform — budget two to four weeks of setup time and consider hiring a specialist for the funnel rebuild if your sequences are complex.
Does Kartra charge transaction fees on course sales?
No. Kartra does not take a percentage of your sales revenue. You pay your payment processor (Stripe, PayPal, Braintree) their standard rate, and Kartra charges its flat monthly fee on top. Kajabi also charges no platform transaction fees. Both platforms are clean on this front.
Which platform is better for selling a course bundle or multiple products?
Kartra has no hard cap on the number of products you can sell, even on lower plans. Kajabi’s Basic plan limits you to three products — a meaningful constraint if you sell individual modules, bundles, and a community separately. Kajabi Growth removes that cap (up to fifteen products), but you are paying $199/mo for the privilege. If product volume is the issue, Kartra wins on the lower tiers.
Does Kajabi have better SEO tools than Kartra?
Kajabi’s blog and website builder gives you slightly more SEO control — custom meta descriptions, clean URL structures, and a blog module that functions reasonably well as a content hub. Kartra’s page builder is optimised for conversion pages rather than content SEO. Neither competes with a standalone WordPress site for organic search, but Kajabi has a modest edge if content marketing is part of your acquisition strategy.
Is Kartra or Kajabi better for coaching businesses?
Kajabi has native coaching products: scheduling (via a Calendly-style integration), session tracking, and the ability to package coaching separately from courses. Kartra does not have a native coaching module — most Kartra users pair it with Calendly or TidyCal for scheduling. If coaching is a significant part of your revenue, Kajabi requires fewer workarounds.
What happens if I cancel either platform?
On both platforms, your content and student data remain accessible for a short window after cancellation (typically 30 days) to allow export. Student video progress is not portable — that data lives inside the platform. Export your contact list, course materials, and any sales data before you cancel. Neither platform holds your payment processing hostage since both connect to third-party processors.
